Volunteer Peer Hub Facilitator

Help run welcoming peer support hubs across Calderdale, with full training and ongoing support.

Volunteer Peer Hub Facilitator

Our peer support hubs provide welcoming, informal spaces where people can connect with others, feel understood and improve their mental wellbeing.

We currently run 6 hubs across Calderdale, during both the daytime and evenings. As our services continue to grow, we are always looking for compassionate and dependable volunteers to join our team as Hub Facilitators.

Each hub usually runs for around two hours every week. Two trained facilitators are assigned to each group, allowing them to build trusted and consistent relationships with the people who attend. Wherever possible, the same facilitators remain with their hub, while our wider volunteer team provides cover during holidays and other absences.

You do not need to be a qualified counsellor or have previous experience within mental health services. Before beginning the role, every facilitator completes eight hours of comprehensive, in-house training delivered by experienced members of our team, including qualified counsellors.

Training includes:

  • Professional boundaries and self-care
  • Building rapport and effective signposting
  • Listening and questioning skills
  • Managing difficult situations
  • Emotional intelligence and stress management
  • Safeguarding Adults Level 2
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • LGBTQ+ awareness
  • Radicalisation and extremism awareness (Prevent)

New volunteers also gain practical experience through co-facilitation before becoming fully trained facilitators. We provide an Enhanced DBS check, regular debriefing and group supervision with our Community Engagement Managers, alongside annual refresher and development training.

This could be the perfect volunteering opportunity if you:

  • Are compassionate, approachable and non-judgemental
  • Enjoy listening to and connecting with others
  • Can help create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment
  • Are reliable and able to make a regular weekly commitment
  • Would like to support people within your local community

We are also keen to hear from people who could help us establish new hubs as we expand our support into more communities across Calderdale.
