Volunteer Receptionist
Be the warm first point of contact for people calling or visiting Unmasked Mental Health, with flexible morning, afternoon or full-day options.
Our Volunteer Receptionists play a vital role in the day-to-day running of Unmasked Mental Health. They are often the first person someone speaks to on the telephone or meets when they arrive, helping us provide a warm, calm and welcoming experience for everyone accessing our services.
Our reception is a busy and varied environment. The telephone rings regularly, visitors arrive throughout the day and clients may be attending counselling appointments, peer support hubs or wellbeing activity groups.
The role may include:
- Answering telephone calls and responding to general enquiries
- Welcoming visitors and allowing access through our secure entry system
- Signing in clients attending counselling, hubs and activities
- Making and managing appointments over the telephone
- Preparing rooms for hubs, activities and other sessions
- Offering drinks and helping clients feel comfortable
- Passing messages and enquiries to the appropriate member of the team
- Providing general administrative and reception support
Previous reception experience is helpful but not essential, as we will provide training and guidance on our internal procedures, telephone and appointment systems.
Volunteers should already be confident using Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel. You will also receive guidance covering confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding, professional boundaries and responding sensitively to people who may be experiencing poor mental health.
You will be supported by the Unmasked Mental Health team throughout your time with us and will always have someone available to provide guidance when needed.
This could be the perfect volunteering opportunity if you:
- Are warm, friendly and approachable
- Are confident answering the telephone and speaking with a wide range of people
- Feel comfortable greeting visitors and helping them feel welcome
- Communicate confidently, calmly and sensitively
- Can use Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Are organised and comfortable working in a busy environment
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Are dependable and work well as part of a team
- Want to help people feel welcomed, valued and supported
Flexible volunteering opportunities are available. You can volunteer for a morning, an afternoon or a full day, depending on your availability and the needs of the service.
