Volunteer Walk Leader
Lead wellbeing walks across Calderdale, from short accessible routes to longer countryside and weekend walks.

Our wellbeing walks give people the opportunity to get active, enjoy Calderdale's beautiful surroundings and connect with others in a relaxed and supportive environment.
We are looking for active and enthusiastic volunteers to help lead walks across the borough. These may range from short, accessible local walks to longer routes for people who would like something more challenging.
Walks can take place weekly during the daytime, in the evenings or at weekends. We are therefore keen to hear from volunteers with different availability who could help us expand the range of walks we offer.
The role may include:
- Planning safe and enjoyable walking routes
- Checking routes and identifying potential risks
- Welcoming participants and explaining the planned walk
- Leading the group at an appropriate and inclusive pace
- Helping participants feel comfortable and included
- Keeping track of the group throughout the walk
- Responding appropriately to changes in weather or other circumstances
- Representing Unmasked Mental Health within the community
This role is particularly suited to someone who:
- Is active and enjoys walking
- Knows some of Calderdale's best walking routes
- Has previous experience of leading walks or groups
- Is friendly, encouraging and approachable
- Can confidently communicate with people of different ages and abilities
- Is reliable, safety-conscious and well organised
- Understands that people may join our walks to support their mental wellbeing
Previous walk-leader experience would be beneficial, but we can help suitable volunteers access walk-leader training. You will also receive guidance from Unmasked Mental Health covering safeguarding, professional boundaries, inclusion and supporting people who may be experiencing poor mental health.
Whether you enjoy gentle community walks, countryside routes or longer weekend adventures, you could help us create opportunities for more people to improve their physical and mental wellbeing while feeling connected to others.
